This year, on August 4th, the U.S. Coast Guard will celebrate its 89th year of service. This week-long Coast Guard Festival is a special time for family and supporters of the Coast Guard to meet, have fun and celebrate the men and women who give freely of their time, talent and resources in the name of patriotism. They risk their lives on a daily basis in order to protect our shores, our waters and our country’s citizens.
The Coast Guard Festival headquarters is located in Grand Haven, Michigan. This beautiful waterfront town offers the ideal setting for a week-long celebration that includes activities for everyone.
Kids’ Day offers lots of activities for children. There are games, storytelling, face painting, hands-on arts and crafts, displays and even a Prince and Princess contest. The Coast Guard, the Department of Public Safety and volunteers from local Tri-City businesses are there to ensure both a safe and fun day.
Senior Day includes a pickle ball tournament, entertainment, bingo, Zumba dance and an expo. The Coast Guard Retirees Dinner is a heartwarming evening to share memories and socialize. There is a Kids’ parade as well as a Grand Parade. Gather your family for the fireworks extravaganza and take part in the street dance, where you can hear the band, Soul’d Out. The Cruise-In Car Show is the perfect spot to browse all types of vintage, classic and new cars. Bring your own car, if you wish! Stroll through the craft fair and then relax with some great food at the picnic.
This festival has been enjoyed by generation after generation. This festival is for everyone to come and show their appreciation for what the U.S. Coast Guard does every day.
